Legal Internships

The Office of General Counsel, the legal department of the AMA, recruits law student interns to work at the AMA headquarters in Chicago during the summer, fall, and spring academic semesters. Law students will gain experience and exposure to corporate and health law matters.

Legal interns may research and draft memoranda on legal issues, assist in policy or contract negotiations and drafting, attend educational sessions and prepare briefs or other material for litigation.

Eligibility & Hours

Law students in their second or third year or students who are pursuing advanced legal degrees are preferred. Summer internships are full-time (37.50 hours per week) while fall and spring placements are part-time (15-20 hours per week).

Application Criteria

Interested candidates must submit a

  1. Cover letter
  2. Resume
  3. Unofficial law school transcript
  4. Writing sample under 500 words

In the cover letter, all applicants must verify that they will obtain course credit for the internship in accordance with the requirements of their academic program and identify the academic term of interest.
