Under the Constitution, the AMA is composed of individual members who are represented in the House of Delegates through state associations and other constituent associations, national medical specialty societies and other entities.

The House of Delegates is the legislative and policy-making body of the Association. The Bylaws of the Association include categories of membership, the composition of the House of Delegates, councils and sections/group and duties and privileges of officers.
