2:30-5:30 p.m.
This year’s clinical skills workshop will feature five interactive stations for medical students and residents, including airway management, suturing, blood pressure readings, ultrasound, and managing opioid overdose emergencies
- Blood pressure reading: Attendees will have the opportunity to sharpen their blood pressure skills to improve patient outcomes, plus learn proper BP measurement techniques and reduce errors with AMA’s interactive training for medical students, residents and physicians. Station presented by AMA MAP.
- Ultrasound skills demonstration: Attendees will have the opportunity to demonstrate the use of a portable ultrasound machine to identify phantom cysts on simulated tissue. Station presented by the American College of Radiology.
- Suturing skills: Through didactic sessions and hands-on demonstrations, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate basic suturing and wound closure techniques on silicone wound simulation models. Station presented by the American College of Surgeons.
- Airway management skills: This session will offer hands-on training in essential airway techniques on two Airway Larry simulators. Participants will gain confidence in managing airway emergencies. Station presented by the American Society of Anesthesiology.
- Opioid overdose emergency treatment: This timely session will teach participants how to identify opioid overdoses and safely administer naloxone. The session includes hands-on practice to build confidence in real-life responses utilizing reusable Narcan trainers on simulation models. Station presented by American College of Emergency Physicians.
