AMA Elections

House of Delegates AMA Board and Council candidates' election

The American Medical Association House of Delegates (HOD) elects officers and council members at each Annual Meeting. Campaigns are conducted under the rules established by the HOD that may be modified from time to time. This democratic process allows delegates the opportunity to become acquainted with the candidates and their views.

Candidates' Election Manual: 2019 Annual Meeting

The Election Manual includes election rules, principles and information on candidates.

We are pleased to provide a comprehensive Election Manual. This manual provides information regarding the election process including AMA guiding principles and campaign rules and conduct. It also offers detailed write-ups from announced candidates.

The AMA solicits nominations for four elected councils: the Council on Constitution and Bylaws, Council on Medical Education, Council on Medical Service and Council on Science and Public Health

The deadline for receipt of nominations is March 15 of each year, and the Board of Trustees (BOT) announces nominees after its April meeting. Policy requires that conflict of interest statements also be available. Please review the nomination process page for additional information.

Election Date

Elections are held on Tuesday of the Annual Meeting from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. under the supervision of the Committee on Rules and Credentials and the chief teller. Elections for 2019 are scheduled for Tuesday, June 11. All delegates eligible to vote must be in line to vote at the time appointed for the close of polls as poll hours are not extended beyond the times posted.

We encourage all members to review the Election Manual to learn more about the candidates as well as the election process.
