Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates on June 11, 2024.
Officers and seven councils are elected by the American Medical Association House of Delegates (HOD) at the Annual Meeting. The elections are conducted during a special election session under the supervision of the Committee on Rules and Credentials and the chief teller, who are appointed by the speakers. The speaker and vice speaker are responsible for overall administration of the elections. Voting is conducted by secret ballot.

Why am I running for Council on Constitution & Bylaws?
I realize how important the structure of the bylaws is for an organization, like the steel framework of a skyscraper. I am committed to maintaining our AMA’s building with the modifications as needed to keep it up-to-date and physician-centric. In this regard, my recent experience as president of the medical staff at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Jersey gave me the opportunity to lead a complete re-write of our hospital medical staff bylaws. I brought all that I learned through the Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) of our AMA to guide the process, and engaged the service of Elizabeth Snelson, Esq., known to all of us at OMSS and beyond, to draft the new version. The result is a set of bylaws that places the physician front and center and protects our rights. Previously, as president of the Medical Society of New Jersey, I oversaw the revamping of our bylaws to create a regionalized governance structure for the state, a goal which had eluded many past presidents. In both situations, empathetic discussions with all stakeholders were central to getting the package approved. I believe this is an important skill and one that I will bring to the Council on Constitution and Bylaws.
My experience
I am an interventional radiologist and partner in the one of the largest, entirely physician-owned radiology groups in America, University Radiology Group. A strong believer in the importance of private practice to best lead medicine forward, I also advocate for physician empowerment in other practice settings. As a teacher of medical students, residents, and fellows, I am a clinical associate professor of radiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and section chief of interventional radiology at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. I serve on the Board of Governors of Saint Peters and am the immediate past president of the medical staff. I previously served on the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Hospital Association. Presently, I am the speaker of the House of Delegates of the Medical Society of New Jersey and am a past president, as well as being a past president of the Middlesex County Medical Society. I am a fellow of the New Jersey Health Executive Leadership Academy and a member of their first graduating class. A member of OMSS since 2015, I have chaired their Reference Committee and served as a candidate interviewer. My experience also includes service on multiple reference committees for the AMA. I currently chair the resolutions review committee for the Southeast Delegation to the AMA and am a Medical Society of New Jersey delegate to the AMA.
