Interim Meeting

2022 Interim Meeting of the HOD: Aug. 4 Speakers' Update

. 4 MIN READ

We hope that you are enjoying your summer. While it seems like the Annual Meeting was just a few weeks ago, at least to the two of us, planning is well under way for the upcoming 2022 Interim Meeting to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, Nov. 12-15. We are providing this advance notice to allow you to begin making your travel plans.

HOD Annual Meeting

Register for the 2024 HOD Annual Meeting taking place June 7–12 in Chicago. Registration is required for all attendees.

Considering the complexity of travel to Hawaii and the many meetings held in conjunction with our House of Delegates, we have decided to return to a more typical Interim meeting schedule for the HOD. It is our hope that the majority of the backlog of business was cleared with our expanded schedule at A-22; however, we will begin the HOD sessions on Saturday and Monday, one hour earlier, to maximize the time for HOD deliberation. We will run all six reference committees on Sunday morning and reference committee reports will be made available, as soon as possible, to allow consideration by caucuses on Monday morning, before the business session of the House.

We will monitor the business as it is submitted and keep you informed as the meeting approaches. Delegations are reminded that business at the Interim meeting is limited to advocacy. If the volume of business exceeds the norm it may be necessary to extend reference committee hearings and HOD business sessions, but this will not include additional meeting days. The meeting is scheduled to adjourn at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Delegates should plan their departure time to allow full consideration of all business.

Below is a summary of the basic schedule for the House of Delegates (information on section meetings will come from section leadership and staff):

  • The meeting hotel is the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The House will convene in the Hawaii convention center, which is a short walk from the hotel. Buses will run between the hotel and the convention center.
  • The opening session will begin at 1 p.m. Hawaii standard time, Saturday, Nov. 12.
  • The second opening will begin at 8 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 13.
  • Reference committee hearings will get underway immediately after the second opening, at approximately 8:30 a.m.
    • Six committees will meet concurrently: Amendments to Constitution & Bylaws, B, C, F, J, and K. This is the usual Interim meeting lineup.
  • Monday’s business session will get underway at 1 p.m.
  • We would expect adjournment by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

The health and safety protocol for the meeting will be determined by the Board of Trustees and will be communicated when available. All meeting attendees will be required to adhere to the protocol once finalized.

CampAMA will again be available for the duration of the AMA section and HOD meetings. Pre-registration and adherence to the health and safety protocol will be necessary for children to participate. Further details will be forthcoming.

Travel and other information will be available shortly on the meeting website.

Delegation leadership and staff are encouraged to confirm that their members have received this communication to ensure that the Office of HOD Affairs has correct email addresses. Important further information will be sent to these same email addresses.

Your speakers are seeking volunteers for HOD committees, including the above mentioned reference committees, the Rules & Credentials Committee, and the Resolution Committee. Note that volunteers to serve on the Resolution Committee must be delegates. Please submit your forms as soon as possible. The form can be found on the speakers' page.
