Last year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) expanded coverage of diabetes screening tests, making it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to receive the hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C) test. This is more convenient for patients since the test can be taken without fasting. Screenings are critical for identifying patients with prediabetes and developing a structured lifestyle change program.
