Physicians move to lower generic prescription drug costs

| 1 Min Read

Physicians at the 2015 AMA Annual Meeting voted to take action to address generic prescription drug increases.

Delegates at the meeting passed policy calling on the AMA to:

  • Advocate for legislation that will ensure fair and appropriate pricing
  • Work collaboratively with federal and state agencies, policymakers and stakeholders to promote policies to address the already high and escalating costs of generic prescription drugs
  • Encourage the development of methods that increase choice and competition in generic prescription drug creation and pricing
  • Support measures that increase price transparency for generic prescription drugs

The AMA Council on Medical Service is expected to release a report at the 2015 AMA Interim Meeting in November that examines both brand name and generic price increases.
