Bruce A. Scott, MD, was first elected vice speaker of the American Medical Association in June 2015 and re-elected June 2018. Dr. Scott attended his first AMA meeting in 1987 and has attended every annual and interim meeting since. Over these years he has served as chair of the AMA Resident Physicians Section (now the AMA Resident and Fellow Section), as the AMA Young Physicians Section’s delegate to the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) and was the young physician on the AMA Board of Trustees (BOT). Dr. Scott has also served as president and board member of the AMA Foundation. For the last 13 years he has been a member of the Kentucky delegation to the AMA-HOD.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Dr. Scott completed his medical education and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Galveston, Texas, and a fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Subsequently he returned to his hometown of Louisville, Ky., to practice. He is board-certified in both otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery and is consistently voted by his patients and peers as a “Best Physician” and “Top Surgeon,” as published in Louisville Magazine.

Dr. Scott is in the prime of his medical career and is passionate about practicing medicine. He currently is the president of his five-physician independent private practice group, medical director of a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center and holds a clinical appointment at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He previously served as chair of surgery at Louisville’s Jewish Hospital.

An author of myriad articles for peer-reviewed publications, as well as chapters in otolaryngology textbooks, Dr. Scott also speaks to physician audiences around the country on topics ranging from leadership and advocacy to sinusitis and clinical documentation. He currently is president-elect of the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) and serves as a member of the board of trustees for both the KMA and the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

Dr. Scott has been happily married for over 30 years and is the proud father of three young adults.
