Pearl of the Week: Screening for prediabetes

Last year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) expanded coverage of diabetes screening tests, making it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to receive the hemoglobin A_1c (HbA_1C) test. This is more convenient for patients since the test can be taken without fasting. Screenings are critical for identifying patients with prediabetes and developing a structured lifestyle change program.
