Education programs and engagement

In the first component of the business meeting, special guests from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Norma Poll-Hunter, PhD, and Frank Trinity, JD, discussed legal implications, new trends and developing strategies as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this year to eliminate race-consciousness in admissions decisions.

Next, the three MAS Governing Council representatives from the Association of American Indian Physicians, the National Hispanic Medical Association and the National Medical Association each shared their organization’s updates regarding programming, policy priorities, medical education and other issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in medicine.

The third component of the business meeting featured three governing council members who identify as American Indian who shared their journey from indigenous-focused pathway programs, through medical education and into their current areas of practice in medicine.
