Lucas is a medical student at University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville in Greenville, South Carolina.
CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) today announced the election of Lawrence “Taylor” Lucas as chair-elect of the Medical Student Section (MSS). Mr. Lucas will assume leadership of the MSS in June 2019, presiding over the MSS Governing Council and representing the section to the greater AMA and outside organizations. The MSS is the most active member group in the AMA, consisting of seven regions and 13 standing committees, and hosting its own general assembly and policy process.
“It is my pleasure to congratulate Mr. Lucas on his election as chair-elect,” said AMA President Barbara L. McAneny, M.D. “The AMA is a powerful ally for physicians and a leading force in the effort to improve the health of the nation, and I look forward to working with Mr. Lucas on behalf of America’s medical students, physicians and patients.”
“It is such a privilege to be elected to serve on the MSS Governing Council,” said Mr. Lucas. “Our profession and the larger health care system are changing rapidly, and I am excited to help the physicians of tomorrow use their voice to take an active role in shaping our future.”
Mr. Lucas has been a member of the AMA since his first year of medical school in 2016. He has served in numerous capacities within organized medicine – including as vice chair and chair of the MSS of the South Carolina Medical Association, member of the AMA House of Delegates, and multiple leadership positions within the national MSS.
Mr. Lucas received his bachelor of science degree from University of South Carolina Honors College, and is currently in his third year of medical school at University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville
