. 2 MIN READ

The 2016 Interim Meeting of the AMA International Medical Graduates Section (AMA-IMGS), in Orlando, Fla., kicked off with the 14th annual AMA Research Symposium. Held in collaboration with the Medical Student and Resident and Fellow Sections, the Symposium featured several computerized enhancements for judging abstracts and offered live networking and educational opportunities.

Winners included Savitha Nagaraj, MD, Clinical Medicine, in the Podium Category, and Danish Henry, MD, Clinical Vignette, in the Poster Category. Both are Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates-certified physicians awaiting residency.

The AMA-IMGS Congress Business meeting was the forum for discussing IMGS policy initiatives and organizational reports. Humayun Chaudhry, DO, CEO and president of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), provided an update on FSMB activities and medical licensure, and the Section Congress reviewed the items considered for the House of Delegates meeting.

The IMGS also held its Busharat Ahmad, MD, Leadership Development Program, in which featured speaker Nestor Ramirez-Lopez, MD, gave a presentation, “Followership: The Other Face of Leadership,” that highlighted the qualities and hidden aspects of leadership. The program was approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

The IMGS sessions will conclude with the joint International Medical Graduates Section-Minority Affairs Section Caucus, on Monday.
