The LGBTQ Allies & Caucus held its 2023 Annual Meeting on Friday, June 9, 2023.

The Advisory Council offered an informative and timely panel presentation with team members from Northwestern University hospitals Gender Pathways program and a child psychologist from Lurie’s Children's Hospital. This education program provided an opportunity for physicians and providers of various backgrounds who all provide gender affirming care to share expertise on various topics within gender-affirming care ranging including: the history of gender-affirming care, navigating gender care programs from the patient perspective, the latest research and benefits of gender hormone therapy, and surgical best practices. A special note of gratitude to our speakers for sharing their time and expertise with AMA members.

The AMA thanks and honors Frank Dowling, MD, who completed their member-at-large term this month. Frank has been a tireless and dedicated champion of the committee and has served in a leadership position as chair. We thank Carl G. Streed, Jr, MD, MPH, who concluded their term on the Advisory Committee this month in their role as the Young Physician Section representative and vice-chair. Their service and leadership were integral to the committee’s outreach, productivity and involvement both within and outside the AMA. The committee also thanks Mollie Marr, PHD, MD, for their service and leadership as the Medical Student Section representative this past year. Mollie’s contributions, especially on the topic of mentorship, were very valuable to the work of the committee.

Joining the committee are Deniz Goodman as the MSS representative, Klint Peebles, MD, as the YPS representative and Brianna Sohl, MD, as the RFS representative. The committee welcomes these individuals enthusiastically and is thrilled and appreciative to have their involvement. Congratulations to Jason Schneider, MD, on being elected to serve as the chair for the 2023-2024 term, and Shail Maingi, MD, on being elected as the vice-chair for the 2023-2024 term.

The passion, expertise and engagement of all these individuals are essential for sustaining our efforts and continued successes.
