Under a delegated electronic health record (EHR) inbox system, the physician stops being the main triage point for incoming messages. Other team members take over tasks and resolve them within their scope of practice. Many practices instead use a model in which the physician is cast as a gatekeeper, serving quality control for care delivery. This method results in increased burnout for physicians, ambiguous responsibility, and potential safety hazards.
