CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) today released the following statement from its President Andrew W. Gurman, MD, following an announcement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of additional opportunities for physicians under Advanced Alternative Payment Models.
“The AMA commends CMS for providing more opportunities for physician practices to join the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) model, a move that will result in improved care for our patients. For 2017, CMS projects that only about 10 percent of physicians will be in Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs). The additional opportunities announced today are estimated to increase the proportion of physicians in Advanced APMs to 25 percent for 2018. This increase is clear progress.
“By being part of these models, physicians will have more time with patients and more flexible payments to support care coordination and improvements in access and quality. This will result in healthier patients and more satisfied physicians, a win-win that is a good holiday present for everyone.”
