The Young Physicians Section (YPS) provides various opportunities for members to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact on patient health and the medical profession.
Endorsement Selection Committee
The Endorsement Selection Committee recommends candidates for YPS endorsement who are applying for AMA president-elect, Board of Trustees, young physician seat on the Board of Trustees, speaker, vice speaker and councils, as well as for external representative bodies for which a young physician member is permitted to apply (AMPAC, ACGME, etc.). Committee members are requested to serve a one-year term.
YPS standing committees
YPS standing committees provide opportunities for leadership development while advancing the goals of the YPS.
Engagement and Opportunity Committee
The Engagement and Opportunity Committee seeks to enhance young physician development through highlighting non-clinical professional activities, creating networking opportunities, and increasing prospects for experiential learning. Committee members will be requested to serve two-year terms and may be eligible to serve more than one term.
Handbook Review Committee
The YPS HOD Handbook Review Committee guides members in this process, and their input is used by YPS delegates to develop official positions and inform their debate and voting. The process helps ensure young physicians' needs are represented in the AMA's policymaking. The work of the committee will start approximately one month before the annual and interim meetings. The term for the committee will be one year. The chairs of the committee will be expected to present the handbook at the YPS Assembly meetings. Apply now! Deadline to submit applications is Jan. 22, 2026.
Professional Development Committee
The goal of the Professional Development Committee is to bring awareness to the professional and personal concerns of young physicians and identify opportunities and/or resources to provide support. Committee members will be requested to serve two-year terms and may be eligible to serve more than one term.
