The AMA Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) held its Interim meeting on Friday, Nov. 14, in National Harbor, Maryland, with more than 100 residents and fellows representing 22 states and 35 specialty societies.

Your powerful ally

The AMA helps physicians build a better future for medicine, advocating in the courts and on the Hill to remove obstacles to patient care and confront today’s greatest health crises.

Business

The RFS assembly considered 17 resolutions, prompting robust discussion on important issues affecting trainees such as Support for Intern, Resident, and Fellow Jeopardy Pay, Addressing Transitions Within GME Regarding Orientation Standards, and Preserving Access to Care for Undocumented Individuals.

The section immediately transmitted four resolutions to the House of Delegates for consideration at its Nov. 2025 meeting. Learn more about these and other policies considered by the AMA House of Delegates.

Elections

The RFS held several elections and an endorsement, and would like to congratulate the following candidates:

  • Laurie Lapp, MD, MPH, chair-elect
  • Abhishek Dharan, MD, AMA Council on Science and Public Health, resident member endorsement

The RFS also elected 2026 Sectional Delegates and Alternate Sectional Delegates. The newly elected members will be reflected on the AMA website.

Upcoming leadership opportunities

Stay tuned for upcoming leadership opportunities on the RFS Standing Committees, resident seats on the Council on Legislation, ACGME Board of Directors, Council on Ethics & Judicial Affairs, AMAF, Council on Long Range Planning & Development, and the RFS, IMGs and WPS Governing Councils.

Thank you for your ongoing engagement and dedication to our section.
