Academic Physicians Section (APS) policymaking

Updated | 2 Min Read

Members of the Academic Physicians Section (APS) have a unique opportunity to shape AMA policy and advocate for medical education and related topics of interest.

Your Powerful Ally

The AMA is your powerful ally, focused on addressing the issues important to you, so you can focus on what matters most—patients. We will meet this challenge together.

New to the policymaking process? Access the education module, How AMA Policy is Made, to learn how APS members influence the AMA’s policymaking efforts.

APS Virtual Policy Town Hall

The next APS Virtual Policy Town Hall will take place in April 2026. During the town hall, APS members will have an opportunity to review and vote on new APS resolutions. Adopted resolutions will be submitted for consideration by the AMA House of Delegates during the 2026 Annual Meeting.

The meeting details and registration link will be posted once available.

Submit a resolution

APS members may submit resolutions for consideration at biannual meetings of the APS (June and November). Resolutions for consideration at the 2026 APS Annual Meeting must be submitted to [email protected] by April 6, 2026, at 8 a.m. View the APS resolution template (DOCX).

The APS Resolution Guide (DOCX) includes a worksheet and checklist to assist with resolution development. If you are not ready to draft a resolution, you can send a completed worksheet to [email protected]. Resolution ideas for consideration during the 2026 APS Annual Meeting are due by Feb. 15, 2026.

If you have questions or need assistance, please email [email protected].

Comment on policy proposals

APS members are invited to comment on policy proposals in advance of each APS business meeting through the online member forum. Authors are encouraged to comment on their own resolutions if they believe doing so would be informative to other reviewers.
