STEPS Forward Pearl of the Week

Many practices reduce unnecessary messages by suppressing the delivery of “thank you” messages into clinician inboxes. With this switch, the care team does not have to manage patient replies that express gratitude or acknowledge understanding (but require no further action). There is no regulatory obligation to respond to every patient portal message.
