Resilience describes how well a person returns to normal function after a stressful event or period. Actual recovery may take more time. Experiencing another significant stressor can cause further decline and lead to burnout. These effects of stress sometimes parallel the physical injury-reinjury cycle seen in clinical practice. 

Organizations can support clinicians’ resilience by creating distraction-free workspaces and limiting unnecessary surveys and meetings.
