Pearl of the Week: The integrated care model

Connect behavioral health and physical health for patients

STEPS Forward Pearl of the Week

Practices using an integrated care model acknowledge the interrelationship between behavioral health and physical health. For example, a patient with diabetes and schizoaffective disorder may be able to improve behavioral symptoms by controlling their blood glucose or having a stable A1C. When a clinic cares for both aspects of the patient in the same office, they can deliver care with higher levels of compassion and service. Physicians who can collaborate with their patients’ behavioral health providers can further improve care.
