This session will help medical students confidently approach the residency Match by providing expert insights into the algorithm behind the Rank Order List (ROL) and practical strategies for building it effectively. It will also prepare students for the possibility of not matching by outlining the SOAP timeline, offering guidance on how to prepare in advance and emphasizing emotional wellness throughout the process.
Following this session, students will have a better understanding of the NRMP algorithm and be able to explain why it favors applicant preference. Students will also be able to describe how program directors (PDs) build their rank lists, including committee structures, evaluation criteria and how signals/interviews factor in.
