AMA-YPS member receives Excellence in Medicine Award

Kavita Shah Arora, MD, a member of the AMA Young Physicians Section (YPS), is among this year’s recipients of the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards.

Fifteen medical students, residents, fellows and early career physicians who demonstrate outstanding nonclinical leadership skills were selected for the award program’s Leadership Awards. Award recipients were honored during a ceremony earlier this month at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, held in conjunction with the 2014 AMA Annual Meeting. The awards were presented in association with Eli Lilly & Co., Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc., PhRMA and Pfizer Inc.

Dr. Shah Arora is an assistant professor of reproductive biology and bioethics at Case Western Reserve University and director of quality in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Her research interests include reproductive ethics and ethics health policy, as well as ethics and professionalism in medical education. 

She has served on the national ethics committees of both the AMA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In 2009 Dr. Arora earned both a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and a master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2013, where she served as the Chief Resident for Education.

Dr. Shah Arora also serves as the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ delegate to the AMA-YPS.
