Josephine Fowler, MD, a board-certified family physician serving as vice chair of clinical services at the University of Massachusetts Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, holds the position of at-large representative on the Minority Affairs Section Governing Council at the American Medical Association.

The MAS is a member interest group within the AMA dedicated to addressing the issues and concerns of underrepresented minority physicians and improving the health of minority populations.

Dr. Fowler has served on numerous committees and workgroups that seek to reduce infant mortality and improve women’s health. Her work also addresses equity in the workplace, as well as medical education funding aimed at expanding programs to support the growing number of unmatched medical students who are unable to find residency training. Dr. Fowler serves as a faculty advisor to the SOAR (Structural Oppression and Anti-Racism) Committee and as one of the department representatives on the OBGYN Anti-Racism Committee.
