Ravi Goel, MD

Candidate for Council on Medical Service

Term: 2026-2030

Protecting sight. Strengthening medicine.

As an ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon in independent private practice, Dr. Goel experiences firsthand the challenges facing physicians today—administrative burden, payer interference, workforce pressures and declining reimbursement. These realities shape how we care for patients and how our practices remain sustainable.

Since joining the AMA as a first-year medical student, Dr. Goel has been actively involved in the work of the House of Delegates. Dr. Goel served on Reference Committees B and F and had the privilege of chairing Reference Committee J. Dr. Goel is a past chair of the AMA Young Physicians Section and a recipient of the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award.

During Dr. Goel's first term on the AMA Council on Medical Service, he has worked with colleagues across specialties to help develop reports addressing key issues facing physicians today, including payment reform, prior authorization, insurer practices, drug pricing, consolidation and the sustainability of independent medical practice.

In addition to clinical work, Dr. Goel serves as chair of the AMA Ophthalmology Section Council and recently completed a six-year term as senior secretary for ophthalmic practice on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Trustees.

Dr. Goel respectfully asks for your support for re-election to the AMA Council on Medical Service to continue contributing to the important work of supporting physicians and improving the practice of medicine.

Ravi Goel, MD: Advocating for physicians in the House of Delegates

Serving the House through the Council on Medical Service

The Council on Medical Service plays a vital role in supporting the policy work of the House of Delegates. Its reports address many of the most pressing issues affecting physicians and patients, including payment reform, prior authorization, insurance practices, consolidation, prescription drug costs, network adequacy, rural health access and the sustainability of independent medical practice.

Since joining the Council on Medical Service, Dr. Goel has worked with colleagues across specialties to help develop reports and recommendations that guide AMA policy and support physicians in every practice environment.

Outside the AMA, Dr. Goel is an instructor at Wills Eye Hospital and a cataract surgeon in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Dr. Goel's undergraduate education at Yale University and medical education at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School were made possible through scholarships, loans and work-study. That experience continues to shape Dr. Goel's understanding of the challenges facing physicians today, including medical education debt and the long-term sustainability of medical careers.
