Open notes may feel like a new requirement, but the concept has been around for decades. What changed in 2021 is the mandate. Most clinicians don’t need new templates or major workflow shifts. Once enabled, notes are simply shared with patients. The real shift is making an existing practice universal, with clearer expectations for access, timing and transparency.
