Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates on June 9, 2026.
Officers and five councils are elected by the American Medical Association House of Delegates (HOD) at the Annual Meeting. Elections for contested contests are held during a special election session under the supervision of the Committee on Rules and Credentials and the chief teller, who are appointed by the speakers. Voting is conducted by secret ballot.

Dr. Milstein for Council on Medical Education
Dr. Mark Milstein is seeking election to the AMA Council on Medical Education. With more than 20 years of undergraduate and graduate medical education experience, including 13 as a residency program director, he has the experience to face the challenges for the next generation of students and trainees. He has been a champion for student and trainee well-being while ensuring that rigorous standards of education are maintained.
In an increasingly complex environment of funding, reimbursement and patient challenges, medical students, trainees and physicians face threats to their education and life-long learning path. Dr. Milstein has spent his career leading the charge to successfully address these challenges.
Dr. Milstein aims to develop modern and high-quality educational programs at the medical school and residency level helping supercharge the next generation of physicians while ensuring practicing physicians can continue as thriving clinicians, scientists, educators and life-long learners.

A dedicated clinician and educator
Dr. Milstein joined the faculty of Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and has dedicated his career to the care of an underserved population and the education of his students, trainees and peers. He has an active practice of inpatient and outpatient neurology which integrates students, residents and fellows into the care team.
At the medical school, he serves as the vice-chair of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Committee for Student Promotion and Professional Standards, helping those students facing roadblocks to successfully obtaining their degrees and ensuring that the learning environment is free from abuse and other unprofessional actions.
As program director, he leads an educational team of faculty and residents on the Clinical Competency and Residency Program Evaluation Committees, helping craft the didactic program, research opportunities and the clinical environment. He has had a special focus in trainee well-being while maintaining rigorous standards of education. Recognizing workforce challenges, Dr. Milstein successfully fought to expand the size of his training program by 33% to better meet individual resident career goals and educational growth without affecting patient care responsibilities.
Nationally, Dr. Milstein actively participates in the leadership development of young neurologists, serving as vice chair of the AAN’s Early Career Leadership subcommittee. With a passion for supporting other educators, he has directed a faculty development program at the AAN Annual Meeting for several years.

An experienced advocate for the future of medicine
Dr. Milstein has been dedicated to service in organized medicine since his first year of medical school in 1998, serving as a delegate to the MSS, RFS and YPS before becoming chair of the YPS. He then joined the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Delegation, becoming vice chair and then chair of the AAN Delegation and the Neurology Section Council. He has served as an HOD delegate while in each section, and he has served on Reference Committee C (Medical Education). He is also active in New York State as president of the New York County Medical Society and as a long-standing member of the Medical Society of the State of New York. He has been directly involved in mentoring students and residents in the advocacy process, supporting them in organized medicine and lobbying activities at the state and federal level.
