Alexander Ding, MD, MS, MBA, is a board-certified diagnostic and interventional radiologist and associate vice president for physician strategy and medical affairs at Humana. In his role at Humana, he leads a team focused on physician engagement, empowerment, advocacy and wellness; advancement of value-based care; and executing on enterprise-level clinical culture.

Dr. Ding remains a practicing physician, currently teaching and providing clinical care as an assistant professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is an industry mentor to students at the University of Louisville Bluegrass Biodesign and the Stanford Clinical Informatics and Management degree programs. He was previously managing partner at California Advanced Imaging, vice chief of the medical staff at San Mateo County Medical Center, and chief of radiology and medical director of imaging at Sutter Health.

In addition to serving as an adviser to multiple health technology companies and venture funds focused on health-related investments, Dr. Ding was recently a gubernatorial appointee to the board of directors of the California Health Professions Education Foundation.

Prior to being elected to the AMA Board of Trustees in June 2022, Dr. Ding served on the AMA Council on Science and Public Health, including as its chair during the COVID-19 pandemic. He previously served on the AMA Board of Trustees as a resident, the AMA Council on Legislation, and the AMPAC Board of Directors. Dr. Ding serves on the AMA Board’s Finance Committee and is a liaison to the AMA Council on Legislation, the AMA Integrated Physician Practice Section, and the AMA’s Truth, Reconciliation, Healing, and Transformation Task Force.

Dr. Ding earned a BA in economics and an MS in public health from the University of California, Berkeley, an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and an MD from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency and fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

A U.S. Navy veteran and native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Ding now resides in Louisville, Ky., with his wife Kimberly, a nursing school professor, and their two sons.
