SPS Governing Council

The strategy and activities of the SPS are directed by a seven-member governing council elected by section membership. The next SPS Governing Council elections will be held in April 2026 for the positions of:

  • Delegate–two-year term (one position)
  • Alternate delegate–two-year term (one position)
  • Officer at-large–two-year term (two positions)

All AMA physicians 65 years of age and older are members of the AMA Senior Physicians Section and are eligible for a leadership position, regardless of whether they work full time, part time or are retired. Find more details about the SPS Governing Council positions and qualifications (PDF).

An online election will take place in Spring 2026, and an electronic ballot will be administered.  Only current AMA members with a valid e-mail address on file in the AMA’s system will be sent a ballot.

Applications are due Feb. 28, 2026. Contact [email protected] for more information.

SPS policy committee

The SPS policy committee contributes to the section’s development of policy proposals for consideration by the section and ultimately the AMA House of Delegates. Contact us at [email protected] to learn more and to volunteer to serve on the policy committee.
