Help Move Medicine

Medicine doesn’t stand still, and neither do we. AMA members don’t just keep up with medicine—they shape its future.

Federal and state update and overview of LGBTQ+ health policies

The Advisory Committee on LGBTQ Issues sponsored an important session with leading experts in the field of LGBTQ+  health policy and legislation who discussed important and timely legislative efforts at the state and federal level impacting LGBTQ health care access and treatment.

Attendees of this session gained: Increased understanding of current legislative landscape at the state and federal level on legislation that and bills that have passed recently affecting LGBTQ+ healthcare and access; increased knowledge about current court cases that have been a result of anti-LGBTQ legislation being passed; increased understanding of newer bills, such as Shield laws, that are being passed in an effort to protect access to LGBTQ+ health care services in some states, and an increase in knowledge of the sponsors and organizations backing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and some of their strategies.

A special note of gratitude to our speakers, and our vice chair who served as moderator, for sharing their time and expertise with AMA members.
