Any new physician joining an organization must work through the prolonged process of credentialing, privileging and enrolling. The credentials verification director at one health system estimated their workflow includes 100 items. The advice for physicians going through the process: start early and gather as much documentation as possible in advance. For any physician with an unusual event in their background—a gap in training or a malpractice claim—it’s best to be up front about the situation and have an explanation ready.
