How does the AMA influence public policy?

| 2 Min Read

As the nation’s largest medical association, the American Medical Association works tirelessly to advance efforts that support and empower America’s physicians and their patients. Nowhere is that more important than in the realm of public policy.

As the physicians’ powerful ally in patient are, the AMA represents physicians with a unified voice in courts, legislative bodies and government agencies, advocating at the federal and state levels to address key issues such as scope of practice, prior authorization, Medicare reform and more.

In addition, the AMA’s House of Delegates (HOD) sets AMA policy on critical issues in medicine, crystallizing the AMA’s stance so it can pursue public policy change. Through this process, the HOD gives AMA members a voice in shaping the future of health care.
