AMA president urges: Rely on science to guide COVID-19 response

CHICAGO — With COVID-19 cases at an all-time high, American Medical Association (AMA) President Susan R. Bailey, M.D., today addressed the Special Meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates and outlined ongoing challenges in the fight against COVID-19, praised physicians and other frontline health care workers battling the virus, and discussed how only science and evidence will light our way forward. 

Dr. Bailey also touted AMA efforts to boost availability of PPE and testing supplies, as well as ongoing work to provide financial lifelines to physician practices across the country so they can survive the pandemic and continue to serve their communities. Finally, with significant advances regarding vaccines on the horizon, Dr. Bailey looked ahead, and urged that, to turn the page on the pandemic, science and vaccine adherence are essential.
