AMA presents government service award to NCI physician

WASHINGTON — The American Medical Association (AMA) presented Steven Rosenberg, M.D., with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service. Dr. Rosenberg, who has been chief of the surgery branch at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., for 44 years, was selected for the AMA’s top government service award for his career-long dedication to innovation and the development of new effective immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer that are revolutionizing cancer treatment and saving lives.

Dr. Rosenberg pioneered the development of the first effective immunotherapy treatment for patients with metastatic melanoma and renal cancer.  Dr. Rosenberg continues to establish cutting edge cancer treatments, including new approaches for the application of immunotherapy in patients with common solid cancers, targeting unique mutations present in the patient’s cancer.
