Statement attributable to:
Gerald E. Harmon, M.D.
President, American Medical Association

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and as recently as last week in my remarks at the National Press Club, the AMA has called out the junk science and misinformation about this virus that have proliferated on social media and sewn distrust in medicine, cost us lives, and driven families apart. We applaud the effort announced by U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D., to collect data from tech companies and personal experiences about misinformation. Collecting and understanding this data is critical to reversing its deadly impact and future spread.”
