CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) today introduced the 21 members of its Board of Trustees for the coming year following elections held during the Annual Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates.
Bobby Mukkamala, M.D., an otolaryngologist from Michigan, was sworn in as AMA president for a one-year term. He succeeds Bruce A. Scott, M.D., an otolaryngologist from Kentucky. With the conclusion of his presidential term, Dr. Scott is the AMA immediate past president.
Willie Underwood III, M.D., MSc, M.P.H., a urologic surgeon from New York, was voted president-elect of the AMA. Dr. Underwood will become AMA president in June 2026.
David H. Aizuss, M.D., an ophthalmologist from California, is the new chair of the AMA Board of Trustees, and Toluwalasé A. Ajayi, M.D., a pediatrician, adult and pediatric palliative medicine physician, and clinical translational researcher from California, is the new chair-elect of the AMA Board of Trustees.
The other executive committee members on the AMA Board of Trustees for 2025-2026 are:
- Alexander Ding, M.D., M.S., M.B.A, a diagnostic and interventional radiologist from Kentucky, is secretary.
- Lisa Bohman Egbert, M.D., an obstetrician-gynecologist from Ohio, is speaker of the AMA House of Delegates.
- Michael Suk, M.D., J.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., an orthopedic surgeon from Pennsylvania, is immediate past chair.
The new members of the Board of Trustees are:
- Pauline P. Huynh, M.D., an otolaryngologist resident from California.
- Justin W. Magrath, Ph.D., a medical student from Louisiana.
- Sheila D. Rege, M.D., a radiation oncologist from Washington state.
- Marta J. Van Beek, M.D., a dermatologist from Iowa.
Returning members of the Board of Trustees are:
- John H. Armstrong, M.D., a trauma surgeon from Florida, is vice speaker of the AMA House of Delegates.
- Geralyn R. Breig, the public member of the AMA Board and a Revlon executive from Connecticut.
- Scott Ferguson, M.D., a diagnostic radiologist from Arkansas.
- Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, M.D., an internist from Georgia.
- Melissa J. Garretson, M.D., a pediatrician from Texas.
- Marilyn J. Heine, M.D., an emergency medicine and hematology oncology physician from Pennsylvania.
- Lynn Jeffers, M.D., M.B.A., a plastic surgeon from California.
- Ilse R. Levin, D.O., M.P.H. & T.M., an internist and epidemiologist from Maryland.
- David J. Welsh, M.D., M.B.A., a surgeon from Indiana.
Members of the AMA Board of Trustees are elected by physicians and medical students representing more than 190 state and specialty medical societies who gather for the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates, the AMA’s policy-making body.
