Where we are on the road to physician-led integrated care

| 2 Min Read

If you’re in a physician-led integrated practice setting, or moving in that direction, the annual meeting of the AMA Integrated Physician Practice Section (IPPS) will shed light on how physicians are shaping emerging care delivery and payment models. The meeting will take place June 5-6 in Chicago.

Keynote speaker Robert Nesse, MD, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System, will share his insights about the current state of physician-led integration, examining such issues as how to work in an integrated system to provide excellent care, understanding the role and impact of organizational culture in mergers and integration, and weighing the option of sustaining an independent practice through alignment with a hospital or health system versus a buyout.

A reaction panel of physicians from a variety of practice settings and stages of integration will comment on the presentation, and participants will break into discussion groups to delve deeper into the topic.

Also at the meeting, members will learn about the AMA’s efforts to improve electronic health record usability for physicians—one of the greatest sources of professional dissatisfaction, according to a recent AMA study by the RAND Corporation. Attendees also will hear about the AMA’s latest advocacy work.

Established in June 2012, the AMA-IPPS is one of the newest AMA sections. It supports physician-led integrated delivery models as a way to ensure every patient experiences affordable, high quality, safe, coordinated care.

The keynote presentation and reaction panel is approved for continuing medical education (CME) credit in the form of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
