STEPS Forward Pearl of the Week

Jesse Gold, MD, MS, the chief wellness officer for the University of Tennessee System, notes that being vulnerable and authentic with your peers opens the door for them to do the same with you. Little moments matter. For example, a physician who has a newborn baby might tell a co-worker, “I’m a little snippy today because I didn’t sleep well because of the baby.” Later, if that co-worker is struggling, they will feel more comfortable talking about burnout, work-life balance and offering grace.
