Research is showing more about how stress affects health care leaders’ work-life balance, personal relationships, and overall sense of isolation. Physicians tend to develop real strengths in their personality: A high compassion for others, an ability to defer gratification, and focusing on and solving problems. These traits are all assets, but each can also be an Achilles heel. Take stock of how your work affects your relationships, and be sure to have compassion for yourself.
