June 2025

From WPS Chair Elisa Choi, MD

It is accomplished.” These words are spoken in our AMA House of Delegates by the speaker and vice speaker when we conclude an item of business, and it readily captures the spirit of AMAzing accomplishments during our AMA meetings, in general. The 2025 AMA Annual Meeting was held earlier this month, and it was a truly energizing and engaging convening. New policies were adopted, ongoing collaborations were strengthened, new connections were formed, and wonderful friendships were initiated and renewed.

Our WPS collaborated with UMAS (Underrepresented in Medicine Advocacy Section) on an education event, introduced five resolutions, took active positions on 40 other resolutions, and connected with other sections and delegations. Our WPS GRROWL (Growing the Representation and Reach of Women Leaders) Committee sponsored our section’s first ever WPS Buddy Program (connecting first time or novice AMA meeting attendees with other WPS members who have more seasoned AMA meeting experience) and continued the tradition of the annual WPS Speed Mentoring Program networking event. Thank you to all who participated in our WPS meeting and events.

Congratulations to newly elected WPS Governing Council members Ariella Wagner, MSS representative, and Shazia Pathan, MD, delegate.

Tiffani Bell Washington, MD, MPH, AMWA representative, has been re-elected to the governing council and will also serve as vice chair for 2025-2026.

I am very grateful to have been re-elected both to the WPS Governing Council and as the WPS chair for the upcoming year.

The spirit of our WPS is well characterized by the proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Thank you to all our WPS members for helping our section achieve many of our goals this past year, together. I look forward to more “togetherness” for the year ahead.
