Advisory Committee on American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Affairs leadership opportunities

| 2 Min Read

The Advisory Committee on American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Affairs provides guidance to the AMA Board of Trustees and AMA management on policy and advocacy initiatives impacting AI/AN medical students, physicians, and patients, while also contributing to broader AMA efforts aimed at improving health outcomes for this population.

Your Powerful Ally

Through AMA advocacy and policymaking, we are addressing the issues important to you—together—and shaping what’s next for physicians.

Members of the Advisory Committee on AI/AN Affairs are appointed by the AMA Board of Trustees, which prioritizes candidates who:

  • Have close professional relationships with AI/AN communities, and/or
  • Have direct experience working with AI/AN communities through Indian Health Service programs, tribally operated programs, Urban Indian Health Programs, or other programs serving AI/AN communities.

The AMA is seeking nominees for the inaugural Advisory Committee on AI/AN Affairs.

Time commitment

The advisory committee meets in person up to three times each year:

  • June 2026 (Chicago, Illinois), in conjunction with the AMA Annual Meeting
  • August 2026 (Chicago, Illinois)
  • November 2026 (Orlando, Florida), in conjunction with the AMA Interim Meeting

Additionally, the advisory committee meets virtually for one hour approximately every two months. All remaining business is handled via email communications, which typically require an additional 1-2 hours per month.
