Education & updates

The AMA Academic Physicians Section and Organized Medical Staff Section presented an education session, “Sustaining the Physician Workforce: Pathways to Re-Entry, Retention, and Well-Being.” This session examined physician wellness through the lens of career sustainability, with focused attention on return to practice after time away. Drivers of physician distress, the structural and regulatory barriers that affect re-entry, and the organizational supports that promote successful reintegration were addressed.

The panelists for this session were Chris Bundy, MD, MPH, executive medical director of the Washington Physicians Health Program and chief medical officer of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs; Tracy Ziegler, MBA, BSN, RN, director, LifeGuard Clinical Assessment Program; and George Abraham, MD, MPH, MACP, chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards and the Federation Credentials Verification Service. Heather Farley, MD, group vice president, AMA Professional Satisfaction, served as the moderator.

APS members also had an opportunity to learn more about the work of the AMA from our Board of Trustees Liaisons, AMA Advocacy and AMPAC. The APS Assembly recognized the members of the Education, Member Engagement and Policy Committees while learning about various accomplishments since the Interim meeting.

Finally, APS members observed its 50th year anniversary as an AMA section.

APS authored the following resolutions, which will be considered during the Annual Meeting:

  • Resolution 307: Recognizing Advocacy as a Component of Faculty Appointment and Promotion in Academic Medicine
