All 50 states apply for Rural Health Transformation Program funding
The application period for the new Rural Health Transformation Program closed on Nov. 5 with all 50 states submitting applications. The program, created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, will distribute $50 billion to states over five years, and is designed to improve rural health through investments in population health, workforce recruitment and retention, telehealth infrastructure, innovative care delivery models, and other initiatives. The strong nationwide participation reflects the urgency of addressing the challenges facing rural communities.
The AMA has been closely engaged throughout the program’s rollout, providing guidance and technical assistance to state medical associations as they worked with state officials on proposals. A summary of the program, as well as other resources related to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, can be accessed on the AMA’s website.
State funding awards will be announced by CMS by Dec. 31, 2025. The AMA will continue to support state medical associations and physicians as the program moves from planning to implementation.
