On the move with: Sabesan Karuppiah, MD, MPH, who goes by Saby, is a family physician and Division Vice President of Graduate Medical Education at HCA MidAmerica in Overland Park, Kansas. Dr. Karuppiah is also member-at-large of the AMA International Medical Graduates Governing Council.

AMA member since: 2008.

What inspired me to pursue a career in medicine: My mother struggled with lack of health care during her childhood and always instilled in me that I need to help as many people as I can.

How I move medicine: By training the next generation of physicians.

Advice I’d give to those interested in pursuing a career in medicine: It is one of the best professions and it’s a great time to get into health care.

How I give back to the community: Physicians can give back by teaching the next generation of physicians, i.e. medical students and residents.
