Leadership, community service and dedication to treating underserved patients—the medical profession’s highest values—will be honored at the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards June 6.

The AMA Foundation presents the annual awards to honor physicians who lead exemplary careers of service, work tirelessly to improve public health and provide the highest quality care. The awards include:

  • Pride in the Profession Award, which is given to a physician who aids underserved patients in the United States
  • Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine, which honors a physician who provides outstanding service to an international population
  • Jack B. McConnell, MD, Award for Excellence in Volunteerism, which recognizes a senior physician who improves access to care in the United States
  • Dr. Debasish Mridha Spirit of Medicine Award, which is awarded to a physician who serves an impoverished community in the United States

In addition, 15 medical students, residents, fellows and early career physicians who demonstrate outstanding nonclinical leadership skills will be given this year’s Leadership Awards.

Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony June 6 at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, held in conjunction with the 2014 AMA Annual Meeting. The awards will be presented in association with Eli Lilly & Co., Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc., PhRMA and Pfizer Inc.
