Georgetown University medical student elected to AMA Board of Trustees

Graduate of Harvard Business School, Georgetown University to begin first term on AMA Board

The American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest and most influential physician organization, announced the election of Omar Z. Maniya, M.B.A., to its 21-member Board of Trustees. Maniya and other members of the Board were elected by physicians and medical students representing more than 190 state and specialty medical societies. The mission of the AMA Board of Trustees is to foster the promotion of the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.

"I am honored to be elected a Trustee of an organization that has been tirelessly striving to improve the lives of physicians and patients for over 150 years," said Maniya. "But health care is changing dramatically, and as the youngest member of the AMA's Board of Trustees I am excited to bring a unique perspective. At the end of the day, all our policy proposals, technological advancements and innovations have to help doctors be doctors and improve the lives of our patients."
