Toluwalase (Lase) Ajayi, MD, a fellowship trained palliative care physician and pediatrician in San Diego, California, serves as chair of the Young Physicians Section (YPS) Governing Council for the 2020-2021 term.
The YPS is a member interest group within the AMA for physicians under 40 years of age or within the first eight years of professional practice after residency and fellowship training. The governing council is responsible for enhancing young physician practice of medicine, including the transition into practice and facilitating the participation of young physicians in policy development.
Dr. Ajayi currently serves as the medical director of palliative medicine at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and is well published in her work with patients with serious illnesses. Dr. Ajayi is a valuable and involved member and leader of the AAP from her local chapter level all the way to the National Council on Community Pediatrics. As evidence of this, she was selected to participate in the Section on Early Career Physicians’ Young Physician Leadership Alliance, an interactive, 3-year training program designed to develop leaders and build a leadership community.
