2025 Interim Meeting

It was wonderful seeing so many of you last month at the Interim Meeting in National Harbor, Maryland. We are all engaged with the AMA for various reasons, but one thing that keeps us coming back is friendship. I am truly honored to work with you all. Aside from the great policy work, it was rejuvenating to share food, drinks and a few laughs with you all. I thought I would use this month’s YPS Members and News Highlights to emphasize some activities from the Interim Meeting.

YPS business meeting

The YPS business meeting was filled with great policy discussions, an educational program and elections for our YPS Endorsement Selection Committee. First, the YPS assembly adopted a new process to create a standing committee that will serve to assist with our handbook review process. A call for applications is forthcoming. We need everyone interested in handbook review to apply. I believe that the stronger we make our review process, the stronger our YPS voice becomes in the House of Delegates.

Over lunch, our assembly heard from Kimberly Chernoby, MD, JD, about her journey as an ED physician and a health policy attorney. This session highlighted how important it is to keep our voices as physicians at the table for health policy development.

Finally, our assembly selected six members to serve on our Endorsement Selection Committee. I want to welcome Karen Dionesotes, MD, MPH, Kathleen Doo, MD, Dan Pfeifle, MD, Sophia Spadafore, MD, Daniel Udrea, MD, and Jocelyn Young, DO, to the committee. We look forward to working with you all.

New reference committee process

Membership Moves Medicine™

  • Thousands of free CME opportunities to fulfill state requirements
  • A powerful voice fighting for you during uncertain times
  • Research, resources, events and more from the largest physician organization

Additionally, the House of Delegates executed a new process for the reference committee hearings that improved the efficiency of business, as the HOD finished a day early! With the introduction of new processes for our House of Delegates meetings, the YPS will find new ways to actively engage and share our perspectives, especially on the Online Reference Committee.

Thank you all again for your passion and dedication to our patients and fellow young physicians. Wishing you all a joyful holiday season!
