Michael A. DellaVecchia, MD, PhD, FACS, FICS, currently serves as chair-elect on the Senior Physicians Section Governing Council and as a delegate from Pennsylvania to the AMA House of Delegates.
The Senior Physicians Section (SPS), representing more than 62,000 members, is the largest senior physician group in the United States. The SPS provides a vital platform for physicians aged 65 and older—whether practicing full-time, part-time, or retired—to remain actively engaged in their profession, advocate for issues that impact senior physicians, and continue contributing to the broader medical community.
Dr. DellaVecchia has a distinguished record of leadership within organized medicine. He previously served as governor of the American College of Surgeons, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and president of the Philadelphia County Medical Society. A board-certified ophthalmologist, he also directed the Wills Eye Emergency Department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
A member of the AMA House of Delegates since 2007, Dr. DellaVecchia has served on several key committees, including the House Election Committee and various reference and coalition groups. He was re-elected to the SPS Governing Council in June 2022.
Dr. DellaVecchia earned his bachelor’s degree from La Salle University, his PhD from Drexel University, and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
